If slow wireless connection speed is the reason behind your frustrating days and sleepless nights, well, we are here to help. In a time when we are spending more and more time online, a slow internet speed could bog you down, to say the least. While changing your provider might sound ideal, there are some tips you could use to set things right for you!
1.Your equipment might be the problem
Your equipment might be the black sheep for starters. Notably, your wireless speed will only be as fast as the slowest piece of equipment you got. Therefore it's ideal you check the speed you're getting on each of the devices you're using. Then connect these devices directly to the router to ascertain the loss. Further, there might also be some compatibility issues. Therefore once you're sure which on is the problem you can go ahead and upgrade your equipment to get better speed.
2.Router positioning
Your router positioning might be the reason of slower speed since placement of your router is key to determine the speed you're receiving. Ideally, a router must lie in the centre of the area where you want the connection, an elevated position will be awesome if you can get that. Further, the area must be clear of obstacles like walls and furniture that significantly obstruct the signals. Also, home appliances like phones and microwaves could effect your wireless signals.
3.Antennas could help
Adding an antenna to your router and your devices could help in boosting your wireless connection. An antenna on the router will aid in improving the outgoing signal while one on the device will improve its reception.
4.Repeaters could help too
A repeater is an electronic device that receives a signal and retransmits it at a higher level or higher power, or onto the other side of an obstruction, so that the signal can cover longer distances. Rest is self explanatory.
5.Change the band and the channel
In case your router is not password protected (which it shouldn't) it's quite possible that others are using the same channel as you are. This will eventually slow down your signal significantly. Try changing the band and the channel to find the one that is least used to maximise your speed.
6.Shut down bandwidth consumers
Some of the apps/programmes are high bandwidth consuming and tend to slow down other apps to work well. Therefore, it's ideal you get hold of these apps and turn them off in case you don't need them.
7.For heaven's sake, get a better provider!
If all the above tips fail, well, you need to talk to your service provider, for clearly there's no other way out!
